I think you do not quite understand the “concubine culture” that you speak of. The emperor doesn’t need to be “loyal” to the empress as most of the time she was picked as the best option for the advantage of both of the family(usually royal/high rank) so it is arranged and surely they are both aware of that. Concubines are usually there to secure the bloodline of the royal family in case the empress cannot conceive a child. Also, concubinity might be the only way for the emperor to legally marry the love of his life(unless maybe he is powerful enough to just choose someone from a less powerful family to be the empress). What I’m saying is your logic of disliking the emperor is kind of off especially when considered the plot of the manhwa where he actly shouldn’t be favoring the empress as she is not the FL. I like writing sorry! I just mean to explain the concubine thingy^^
