A war going on isn’t it? And they mentioned mountains, I suspect that if there downstream there water is being poisoned to reduce numbers of people who could fight in the war and hold the economy up. Test the water, and look for the first cases, were they near a river? If the water is being contaminated, it would work to just go upstream till you find the source.

Are you daft? This epidemic is in the heart of Londo. The battlefield is hundreds, if not thousands, of miles away. There is no way, a water source in Londo is reaching all the way to the battlefield. If my guess is correct, this is Cholera, caused by water polluted by industrial waste, which caused it to become a breeding ground for bacteria.

Most likely it’s pollution from bad water management in and overly built up major city. It happened many times in history where cities would grow too quickly and their water sources would get contaminated with sewage and other pollutants because people didn’t have a system to properly dispose of it. Look up old photos of New York City. When horses and carages were the main means of transportation, the city streets used to be covered in over a foot of horse poop. And when horses died, they’d just leave them there cause they didn’t have the means to dispose of them. Historically, large cities have been absolutely nasty.
