Well, from what i understood, its not just the crown prince. The root cause was the division of north and the overly ambitious capital. Capital wants to unite the whole nation, all the other region bowed down but only the north didnt and even made a deal instead. The deal is that the north is separate from the capital’s rule. The capital didnt like that (though they have to hide there dislike- I believe the reason is to avoid wars because there have been no mention to them even if its expected so), Now for the crown prince who is married with 2 children but is already cheating, he is the current ruler (i dont know about the emperor but yeah). The prince is still trying to meddle in the north using aristocrats from his faction to start the illegal beast trading and using the west (the empress faction -I think maybe the empress is against the crown prince) as the route.
The prince is just too meddling in what he shouldn’t. Maybe they think he is incompetent and maybe the empress has something to do with it?
I mean if the illegal trade route is to be found, although it is the imperial faction. The investigation will be on the empress and the north, Additionally, the emperial faction has the government so they can control the flow of the possible investigation.
