Guess she wasn’t so terrible 😐
Driana
Did she really feel lonely without him??
Iris_Faires2023
I might be a terrible person, but I dislike both the aunt, and the villagers who hated a child for being illigitimate (like he had any control over, or responsibility for that) and then watched that child be neglected and abused with folded arms.
I mean, I’m not out here praying for a meteor to fall and wipe the village from the face of the earth, but I also wouldn’t shed a tear if every adult in that place vanished into the night.
It doesn’t move me to know that the scheeming child abuser is lonely now that she’s deprived of her punching bag. She WAS so terrible, she did all those things. Her feeling sorry for HERSELF, after the fact, for not being able to alleviate her own guilt and con forgiveness out of an abused 5 year old isn’t character growth.
Am I really the odd one out to think so?

I’m pretty sure it was neglect, not physical abuse, so I don’t know why you said the aunt was “deprived of her punching bag”.

Are you for serious rn? In chapter 2 the FL says that she doesn’t have PROOF of physical violence, but the aunt admitted to taking her negative emotions out on him, and the panels where their relationship is being shown have literal blood splatter in the air. Also, neglect, verbal abuse, and emotional abuse = abuse.
Not to mention she used him as a meal ticket TWICE. The first time when she tried to con money out of the the FL, the second time when she literally sold him like an unwanted puppy to a perfect stranger. The only thing she knew about this guy (aside from him being rich, powerful, and potentially monstrous) is that he has the exact same relationship with the boy as she does – but her sister ran away from his family: preferring to live in shame and poverty far away from them. She has no assurances he’ll treat the boy any better than she did, and every reason to fear much worse treatment.
Maybe she did have some weak, twisted affection for the boy: but that doesn’t change who she proved herself to be, or what she did.
