Honestly yeah, I personally don’t agree with not forgiving someone, however I view it more as letting yourself free of what they’ve done to you. that doesn’t mean you forget. You can’t forget, but you can free yourself from the burden of keeping that horrid person in your thoughts. They have to remember that to be forgiven by those they’ve hurt is a gift they must wait for, but the one doing the forgiving must also remember to put themselves above the person, their mental health, their well being, their sanity.
In this case, the grandfather wants forgiveness so that his conscience will rest, and I see it as sinning your whole life, being the worst you can be CONSCIOUSLY and then giving your life to Christ on your deathbed so you don’t go to hell. It doesn’t work like that. Christ even said so in Matthew 7:21-23. He didn’t repent, he doesn’t care about the hurt he’s inflicted, he wants to escape judgement, but he won’t.
So I personally think that she should forgive him in her heart, not outwardly ( those imps don’t deserve to hear her words) just so that she can find peace.
That’s my opinion.
