Summary
The Return of Elena the Knight
Elena, who spent her entire life as a cold-blooded female knight to avenge her family, ended up dying without claiming her revenge. When she opened her eyes she found that she went back into the past. By day she was a lady in a dress, and at night she carried a sword to change history and prevent her family’s destruction.
“I want to marry you, Your Highness,” she said to the crown prince. She would do this to save her family.

This manhwa is kinda weird. There are so many underlaying sexism in it. Even if the female protagonist is a knight, the male protagonist practically coddle her. Plus what’s the deal with the contract anyway? Like why would the female lead need permission from the male lead to become a knight? Plus on the first day after their marriage, the male lead starts to control what the female lead is wearing. Saying sh*t like I only want you to wear stuff like this when it’s just the two of us or I don’t want other people to see that back of yours. Even at their date to the opera too. Why’s the male lead so controlling? And why does the female lead, who is a knight of 20 yrs, keep listening to him? Their relationship is so toxic and I’m just saying but girl, you need to leave that man.
THE MAGE
The reason he coddles her is just because he is protective which is cute and mostly readers like mls being possessive . Again with her clothes it was just some jealousy and obsession that doesn’t makes him manipulative. I just feel like you’re the red flag instead of our ml because you’re seriously picking out issues.I wouldn’t have even noticed these problems if it weren’t for you mentioning them!❤have a nice day

I actually like your point. Many manwhas that have a “strong” fl tend to do this which I don’t think is absolutely terrible. Moreso, I don’t like how they approach it. Often times, they make the ml so protective that it feels like none of the experience the ml has with the “strong” fl mattered. On the other hand, often, they have the ml completely put full faith in the “strong” fl almost as if she is all powerful and would make it out alive every battle. I think a lot of manwhas fail to incorporate the nuance of the situation which then makes the ml’s behaviors seem either overly coddling or overly complacent. It’d be nice to see a ml that expresses worry without being overbearing bc, in terms of the setting of these types of manwha, it IS a very distressing scenario. No one can completely remain still and calm knowing their partner is walking into no man’s land. At the same time, in the perspective of a fellow soldier, the ml SHOULD have faith in the fl leads skills as a fighter and I find that many manwhas fail to reproduce this raw and humane duality without being over the top.
In terms of her dressing, I think this is an argument of perspective. From one perspective, it can be seen as weird and controlling. From another perspective, with past portrayals of romance, this could be seen as mere flirting and playful possessiveness. However, I can see your point since, realistically, it’s not common to have this type of possessiveness without additional underlying red flags. I think this quality tends to be very romanticized in media, but, in real life, it is not hard for someone with overly possessive qualities to go off the deep end.
