I think the Emperor is female, and the concubines are mainly male. But are kinda just either or sent as a kind of political hostage to keep up diplomacy. The main problem is I’m not sure they have a proper person in place to suss out context for the pronouns.

In the novel, it confirms that the emperor is a woman. And I’m pretty sure the concubines are all males. ( expect sanya!!)

There’s female and male concubines and the emperor is female so she’s bi, but most concubines are male like in this chapter we saw female concubines!!
