I did read to chapter 25 and there are some cute redeeming character development moments with Kata and Tahn starting about midway on that I really enjoyed, but the first dozen chapters left such a bad taste in my mouth that I won’t be following future updates.
The way their culture treats women before they are married is f***ed up. I’m fine with non-con in my stories but usually someone, even if it’s just the victim and later the love-interest abuser, recognizes it’s wrong. They recognize that changes have to be made. That the non-con can’t continue.
But this culture is all about rape until the woman gets married. Then she’s spoiled rotten and gets whatever she wants (I think that was the implication in the last chapter) so it’s fine. No, it is in fact not fine. It was never fine. There is no part of this system that is fine and the abusers falling in love with their victims does not negate that.
It may be hypocritical of me because I’ve enjoyed plenty of dark stories about redeemed leads of this variety but something about how it was presented in this story really rubbed me the wrong way. All I could think of was how much horror so many women suffered at the tribe’s hands and how many more women were suffering off page while the leads are supposedly having their love story. No matter how much the mls develop interacting with her, as long as they allow that abuse to continue within their tribe, I’ll never root for them. Hopefully the fl can change their system so women have the ability to say no, but I won’t be here to see it.
