those traits are actually still considered ugly by many to this day. of course things change over time and differ from place to place, but it’s not uncommon for especially the round face and curly red hair to be seen as undesirable (though I agree she’s stunning!). freckles, too, since they’re “impurities” on the skin in the eyes of some people

In a story that comes from Korean writing. Korean beauty standards get applied, and they tend to look down on freckles and such because it stems from old time hierarchy. If you’ve been in the sun long enough to get freckles/tan back then it meant you were low status because the nobility would have others do the work. And the ladies would have parasols too, to limit exposure. Meanwhile the roundness being looked down upon because apparently the “beauty” standard for that in Korea is that you should be able to hide your middle/tosro behind a sheet of paper. So, yeah…
