No, Pierta sees Dane as her father, so much so that Daisy never knew Dane is actually Pierta’s uncle. It seems based on the implications that the “catalyst” that sets things in motion for the story in the novel to start in the first place is Dane’s death. Pierta would be “remembering” her father because he has passed.
Daisy is basically now trying to figure out how she’s going to keep her fiancé from dying.
