In real life a lot of people have the issue of choosing mother or child and both can just as easily be lost. Some choose the mother so that you can try again and others pick the baby. I can understand the resentment especially when he clearly was against the choice of the baby. However that should be something you cherish. The struggle of Claude should not be taken lightly.. It was like a deep depression and he was blaming his child even if the mother is the one who decided to keep her regardless if she will die in the process.
