Why would you give her only two choices, say yoiu’ll wait for her! that’s actually a bit toxic of him I’m sorry, he should support and understand her aspirations

Well, not actually. Giving your potential partner a choice between “choose me and come with me, or choose your dreams and this is where we end” is not necessarily toxic. Everyone has their own aspirations. No one should put theirs on hold because of another. ML should not have to spend an indeterminate amount of time waiting for FL as she got her life together, and vice versa. Why should he? He has his own aspirations to pursue after all, and her alignments are not in line with his. He made his intentions clear, it is now FL’s decision to choose A or B or offer him option C that she thinks he might be amenable to. In many ways, choosing to make the hard decision is the less toxic option, as opposed to FL’s desire to remain together (be in a relationship) while also apart (stand on opposite factions in a war). Things get messy very fast and it only ever gets both parties hurt.

i still don’t get why she needs to stay with the empire. . . tsk tsk tsk. what Aetius said was true. if she chose him, she could rebuild her kingdom with him, she could be with her lover and still get what she wants for her ambition. staying in the empire is like waiting acknowledgement from the emperor and have her kingdom handed over to her like a favor which ultimately means she would still be indebted to the emperor if not being one of his women in the harem
