I can’t stop giggling over all of the names being related to dogs (i.e. breeds, pet products).
It’s a little distracting, though, for a story about dubious consent, abandonment, and people just being absolutely shitty towards her and her child. I’m still upset that her family’s immediate response was to blame her. You can cry “historical setting” all you want, but authors need to start laying the onus on men for this shit. If it turns out that the guy was just as wasted as she was, I might be able to forgive him. But if he wasn’t, I’d want to tear him apart.
